About PCO Drivers Union

Building a collective voice for London's private hire drivers

Our Story

The PCO Drivers Union was founded in 2023 by a group of experienced London private hire drivers who recognized the growing challenges facing the industry. After years of declining earnings, increasing regulations, and deteriorating working conditions, we realized that individual drivers were powerless against large platforms and regulatory bodies.

According to recent research from the University of Oxford, ride-hail drivers' real earnings have fallen by over 20% in the past three years, while operating costs have increased by 50%. This unsustainable situation pushed us to create a collective organization that could advocate for drivers' rights and fair treatment.

We began as an informal group of 50 drivers sharing concerns in WhatsApp groups. Today, we're building a formal union that will represent thousands of drivers across London and eventually the entire UK.

Our Core Values

Collective Power

We believe that unity creates strength. Individually, drivers have little bargaining power. Collectively, we can negotiate fair terms with platforms and influence policy decisions.

Fair Treatment

Every driver deserves fair compensation, safe working conditions, and transparent policies. We fight against arbitrary deactivations, unfair algorithms, and opaque decision-making.

Sustainable Future

We're building for the long term. This means advocating for sustainable earnings, reasonable regulations, and a driver-owned alternative that puts drivers first.

Our Current Status

Building Towards Official Registration

We are currently in the process of gathering the required 5,000 members to apply for official trade union registration with the Certification Officer. Once registered, we will have legal recognition and the right to:

  • Engage in collective bargaining with employers
  • Represent members in employment disputes
  • Access government consultation processes
  • Receive legal protections for union activities

Progress to Registration

Members Needed 1,250 / 5,000

We need 3,750 more drivers to reach our registration goal
